Offshore: High-tech power generation off the coast

The energy sector is undergoing change: In the country, residents feel increasingly disturbed by the sight of countless wind turbines and generators. Fear of infrasound is on the rise. Offshore is thus the market of the future. Our focus is therefore on offshore plants on the high seas and the associated offshore plant technology.

Offshore plants: The industry relies on experience

The generation of wind energy is to be further expanded in the coming years. In Germany, offshore wind energy off the coasts of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea faces special challenges: For nature conservation reasons, wind farms may only be built on the high seas - with a corresponding water depth and generally more than 20 kilometres from the mainland. Products from basalt fibres

Thanks to the comprehensive know-how of our team and excellent knowledge of the industry, we are very familiar with the current and future challenges of the offshore industry, particularly with regard to environmental issues. We therefore rely on basalt as another key material. Basalt fibres are produced from this basic effusive rock. Basalt fibres have various properties that destine them for use in offshore plants on the high seas. We therefore consider them to be the material of the future. They show extreme temperature resistance from minus 260 degrees Celsius to plus 800 degrees Celsius. They have UV stability, high mechanical strength and electrical insulation. Moreover, it is a natural product that can be used by plant manufacturers to significantly increase their share of recyclable material.

This is why the two products offered by Jäger Gummi und Kunststoff GmbH are of particular interest to plant engineers: the basalt fibre protectors and the basalt bags. The protectors prevent damage to the boat landings of offshore wind turbines. The components are a high-performance adhesive and the special, environmentally friendly material basalt.

The basalt fibre protectors are designed to withstand the harsh climatic conditions on the high seas and still last for a long time. Conventional corrosion protection coatings are mechanically damaged by impact and fender friction of the maintenance ships. This quickly leads to serious rust damage. Basalt protectors offer reliable protection: Highly resistant and as a natural material in production and disposal with a very low environmental impact. The protector encloses the tube of the boat landings, has either a smooth or a rough surface and consists of basalt fabric, vinyl ester resin and adhesive. The protectors can be installed preventively onshore or as a repair solution offshore.

Our second product is Basalt Bags. These serve, for example, to protect pipelines in the offshore sector and, as they are also made of rock fabric, consist of mineral material. Installation at sea is simple and low-risk, as no diver is required. The material is not soluble in water and is not decomposed naturally, salvage is simple and individual weighting is possible due to its size and weight.
